Buying with confidence
Understanding manifests
Manifested and unmanifested stock both have a place in a wholesale marketplace. What matters is knowing which one you are buying.
What a manifest is
A manifest is a stock list supplied with a lot. Where one exists, it is available to view or download on the listing. Manifests typically show SKU or product code, description, quantity, brand, reference retail value and, in some cases, condition.
Palletise does not fill in missing manifest information. If a supplier has not provided a detail, it stays blank rather than being estimated.
What a manifest does not guarantee
Condition of every unit
Manifests describe products, not the state of each item. Always read the condition grade.
Resale value
Reference retail values are for comparison only and do not represent guaranteed resale proceeds.
Exact quantities in every case
Minor variances can occur. Report any shortfall promptly so it can be reviewed.
Manifested vs unmanifested
Manifested lots
Manifested lots clearly display the available stock information before purchase, so you can assess categories, quantities and unit economics in advance.
Unmanifested lots
Where a lot is sold unmanifested, this is clearly disclosed on the listing so buyers can make an informed decision. No hidden grading, and no pretending an unmanifested lot is manifested.
Buyer due diligence
Read the condition grade, check whether items are tested or untested, review the imagery, and work out your landed cost per unit before you commit. Our profit calculator is a planning aid — estimated figures only, and actual resale prices, costs, sell-through and returns will vary.
Manifest FAQs
- What is a manifest?
- A manifest is a document supplied with a lot that lists the stock it is expected to contain. Depending on the source it may show SKU or product code, description, quantity, brand, a reference retail value and, in some cases, condition information.
- Does a manifest guarantee condition or resale value?
- No. A manifest describes what the stock is, not what it is worth to you or what condition every individual unit is in. Reference retail values are provided for comparison and do not represent guaranteed resale proceeds.
- What does unmanifested mean?
- An unmanifested lot is sold without an itemised stock list. Where a lot is unmanifested, this is clearly disclosed on the listing along with the category, condition and any imagery available, so you can make an informed decision.
